A family tradition – Shawn Beresford

At Shawn & Ted's Meat Market, Shawn Beresford still cuts meat with the knives his Iowa grandfather used…honoring a family tradition.

Shawn began as a clean-up boy at Donn’s Quality Meats on the East Hill of Kent, Washington.  There he learned to appreciate “natural” beef, as the meat market’s herd of 300 cattle was raised without antibiotics, steroids, or growth hormones.  During his 11 years in Kent, Shawn became dedicated to the philosophy of offering only the best quality meats in a first-class market.  This is where he also learned the fine art of smoking meats such as hams, bacon, and pepperoni.

Next the famous Pike Place Market in Seattle lured Shawn to work at one meat market there… and then a second.  Shawn found the excitement and energy of the market to be a wonderfully stimulating environment   And Pike Place is where Shawn met Ted Coffman, his future business partner.

“The quality of natural meats, combined with the energy of the Pike Place Market, is what we envisioned in creating Shawn and Ted’s Meat Market” says Shawn.  “I feel ‘characters with integrity’ exemplifies the personalities attracted to the meat cutter’s trade.  I love talking to customers… explaining how we do things and educating them about the quality of the meat they are buying.”
